Hand needles have a numbering system where the smaller the number the thicker the needle (just like thread). A thick crewel needle is size 3 and a thick tapestry needle is size 18. The thinnest are sizes 10 and 26 respectively. Subcategories Sharps General purpose sewing needles. On Easy Thread needles, the thread simply slots into place through the top of the needle. Milliners / Straw long needles with round eyes for work on bonnets, hats etc. Also suitable for pleating and decoration work. Similar to the sharps needle, but longer.
