DMC Stranded cotton thread

DMC Six Stranded Cotton is ideal for cross-stitch, it is also perfectly adapted to other stitches, particularly long, short & satin stitch. Comprised of 6 easily separable strands, you can vary your stitching results, depending on the number of strands used.

Made from the most beautiful long staple Egyptian cotton fibres. The intense sheen is comparable with pure silk threads and is due to a process called mercerisation. Mercerisation is a manufacturing process that enhances and embellishes the threads appearance. The quality of the thread is ensured by the use of the long staple fibres that align in the direction of the thread unlike inferior brands which use cheaper, short staple fibres that often result in a ‘fuzzy’ appearance.

DMC six strand is colourfast and will withstand both time and light. It can be washed on a frequent basis, without the colour fading. It can also be washed at very high temperatures. In fact, DMC is the only company that guarantees the resistance of the majority of its thread to washing with chlorine bleach. This is particularly useful in the case of stitched household linen. The thread is created to resist light for a very long time, as it is intended for indoor display. All DMC threads are controlled in a laboratory, using highly rigorous tests that simulate several months of exposure to day light.

When you use DMC Stranded Cotton, there is no need to worry about colour variations. The Stranded Cotton has been manufactured for over 100 years, at the same factory in France (Alsace region). DMC colour specialists are dedicated to providing consistent colour quality, in order to offer stitchers perfect continuity in their needlework projects, even when changing skeins. The famous "Christmas Red", DMC's flagship colour since the 19th century, has had reference number 321 since it was created.

The full range consists of 465 beautiful colours, on the standard 8m skein.

The colour shown has been faithfully reproduced from a thread wrapped shade card, but it will appear slightly different to the actual thread colour on screen. This is because every computer monitor can be set to different levels of colour, brightness and contrast.
