Romeo - 5m Multisave
Manufactured in England, Romeo is one of the heaviest weights of water-soluble film. It can be used for lace, jewellery, special effects, stitched sculptures, free motion or digitised designs using all weights of thread.
We recommend that when using a machine both a darning foot and hoop be used. As you get more confident Romeo is sufficiently chunky and stable to use without a hoop or darning foot.
To perform free style machine embroidery or to paint with the needle ensure the machine feed dogs are off and the open darning foot is attached. Set the machine to embroider a straight or zigzag stitch and simply move the background fabric as you embroider.
The design you wish to create can be traced or drawn directly onto the fabric using a magic pen. Romeo will also go through an inkjet printer. Great care should be used and the material should be glued onto a carrier sheet using a low tack temporary adhesive before printing.
It has always been possible to embroider directly onto soluble fabrics to create Stitched Sculptures and when using Romeo this process is simplified. When creating Stitched Sculptures the resulting items are created solely from thread, stiffened by small amounts of film residue purposely left in to form the required shape.
Washing out
To dissolve completely immerse in cool water and agitate if possible. Alternatively hold under a slow running cold tap. Dissolve time depends on the amount of soluble material used and the density of the embroidery. When dissolving completely it is very important that all the stitches are well joined otherwise the piece may fall to bits! So embroider in as many directions as possible. Place on newspaper to drip and then move to a safe warm place to hasten the drying process.
The applications featured are not intended to limit the imagination or put any restrictions on the way they are used. Do experiment to get a feel of how the fabric will work for you and always test a small section first!
Warm water will hasten the dissolve time.
