Schmetz Domestic Machine Needles

Each Machine Needle category is listed below. When you view the category a list of the needle applications can be seen. Please scroll right to the bottom of the page as there are many categories in this section

For the very best results when embroidering, take a look at our Machine Embroidery Needle factsheet which explains in detail why a good needle is so important in the production of quality embroidery.

There are so many different types of Schmetz needle that it can be quite daunting. We stock needles for both industrial and domestic machines. If you require industrial needles with a round shank, please contact us for further information and advice. Industrial needles will not fit domestic machines. Domestic machines require a needle with a flat back on the shank.

Subcategories

Schmetz Universal

The Universal needle has a sharp point for most general sewing applications from dress making to machine embroidery and machine quilting. The Universal needles can be used on the majority of fabrics including jerseys and synthetics.

Topstitch & Metallica

The Topstitch and Metallica needle are exactly the same needle with different names. The best attributes are taken from all the other needles and are combined together to create these superb machine needles.

Embroidery (Red Tip)

The Embroidery needle or ‘E’ Needle has an elongated eye. The eye is 1.5 times the length of the eye of the standard Universal Needle but not as big as the double length eye of the Topstitch needle.

Jeans (Blue Tip)

The Schmetz Jeans needles are strong needles used extensively by quilters and are great for denim and heavier densely woven materials, artificial leather, waxed cloth and vinyl.

Quilting

The specially designed Quilting needles are made stronger than regular needles to cope with the layers of fabric and wadding. Quilting needles are especially sharp with a special taper on the shank of the needle for optimum fabric penetration.

Jersy / Ballpoint

Ballpoint needles are used generally in fine and medium needle sizes to prevent needle damage and laddering in light and medium weight man-made and knitted fabrics.

Twin & Triple

Twin & Triple Embroidery Needles are great fun. Use for tuck-piping and ornamental seams.

Microtex

The Microtex needle has a very slim acute point for easier piecing of very fine or densely woven fabrics. Use for the precise stitching of edges, also for silk, microfibre fabrics, coated materials, foils and artificial leather.

Leather

For leather and artificial leather with a specialist triangular Point

Double Eye & Easy Thread

Schmetz Double Eye has two eyes in the shank, one above the other, the easy thread needle is threaded from the side of the needle instead of through the eye.

Bernina

Some Bernina household machines need to use specific needles, please view this section to check your machine.

Spring

The Spring Needle gives complete freedom allowing free machine embroidery to be worked without a darning foot or even a hoop.

Gold / Titanium

The titanium coating resists adhesives, improves needle wear and penetration of coarse and densely woven fabrics

Hemstitch / Wing

The Wing Needle has a blade on each side of the needle that cuts holes in the fabric when the needle penetrates, creating a spoke stitch effect.
