WaterMelon - Angelina Hot Fix 7gms Bag
Angelina® Fibre 7gm bag
Trying to photograph and scan such a highly reflective fibre as Angelina has proved a nightmare! The image we have captured does not convey the brilliance of the fibres and there is just no way that the true colours can be depicted on the internet. This is because every computer monitor can be set to different levels of colour, brightness and contrast, and all printing machines are different so it is possible that everyone will see a slightly different colour. The images therefore are only a guide and to see the true Angelina in all her glory you must wait for the postman to drop the parcel through the letterbox!
'Hot Fix' Angelina
4" Fibre Length, 15 Denier.
Angelina is a soft lustrous fibre that will bond to itself at relatively low temperatures to produce a non woven type of fabric. Bonding occurs when 'Hot-Fix' Angelina fibres soften and fuse together.
Start by testing the procedure. Simply place a small amount of fibre between two sheets of tissue paper or baking parchment. Using an iron on the 'silk' setting (irons vary, so start with this setting, it may be necessary to increase the temperature, but avoid using too hot a setting to start with as this will effect the overall result), gently move the iron back and forth over the surface of the paper. The fibres should bond quickly, so check frequently to see progress. Too much heat or pressure can change the original qualities of the fibre. Generally, at low temperatures Hot-Fix Angelina will only bond to itself not to other fibres or paper. The result will be a sheet of web-like non-woven sparkling fabric that is peeled off the tissue.
The fibres can be blended for shimmering multi-coloured effects. Quite solid, dense sheets of fabric can be produced simply by using a larger amount of fibre without spreading or thinning. In this case, it may be necessary to increase the temperature slightly while applying the heat for longer, and to turn the whole Angelina/tissue 'sandwich' over and iron on the reverse side.
Ideas To Try.
Please note that lots of experimental techniques may involve higher settings on the iron. In this situation fibres could stick to the tissue paper. Use baking parchment instead of tissue. Experiment fully, the uses of Angelina are limited only by imagination!
Prepare several sheets of fine 'Hot-Fix'. Cut strips or shapes from the sheets, place onto the baking parchment and cover with more 'Hot-Fix' fibres. Heat again. The shapes will no be bonded onto a contrasting sheet. Other layers can be added, but it may be necessary to increase the temperature and dwell time for successful bonding.
Increase the temperature of the iron and see the difference it makes to 'Hot-Fix' colours. The higher the temperature and longer the dwell time the more matt the colours become.
In a sheet of mixed fibre ('Hot-Fix' and standard) increasing the temperature of the iron will make the 'Hot-Fix' colours more matt but will not effect the standard colour and will therefore make these fibres more prominent.
Angelina is a polyester fibre and is therefore perfect for transfer paints. Apply transfer paints or crayons in the normal way. Most successful on the lighter colours of Angelina.
Crimp the sheet of Angelina fabric by putting through a paper crimper while the sheet is still warm from the iron. The crimping will be retained.
Place strong textures under the bottom sheet of baking parchment and iron to bond the fibres. The Angelina fibre will retain the pattern of the texture.
Apply foils to a prepared sheet of Angelina.
Trap other fibres within 'Hot-Fix' like thread paper leaves etc.
Heat a sheet of Angelina with a heat gun. Watch it shrink & distort, or cut through a sheet of Angelina with a soldering iron.
If any of the above interests you. The book on Angelina is a must. Called ‘Between The Sheets With Angelina’ by Alysn Midgelow-Marsden.
